How do I use AbsoluteFTP™?
If you do not have AbsoluteFTP and wish to download a copy, you may do so at the following link:
http://www.vandyke.com/download/absoluteftp/index.html

Using AbsoluteFTP™
1. Open AbsoluteFTP by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

2. Bring up the Connect screen shown below.
NOTE : If it does not automatically appear, please choose Connect from the File menu to bring up the Connect window.

3. Click the New Session toolbar button.
NOTE : This is the icon second from the left shown on the screen above. The screen shown below indicates the screen that should appear once you have successfully clicked on New Session.

4. In the Host address box, you should enter the appropriate FTP server IP address for your domain name.
NOTE : This is available in the confirmation E-mail that DreamWorx Hosting sent you when your account was setup. The port should be set to 21, the FTP port by default. If it is not, you should enter this manually. Once you have entered the appropriate information, click Next.

5. At the next screen, make sure that you un-click the Anonymous login option as it will be selected by default.
NOTE : Once you have done this you will be able to replace the anonymous login information with both your username and password that were given to you in the setup confirmation E-mail we sent you. Once you have entered the appropriate information, click Next.

6. Click the Next button to bypass the Initial directory page as the FTP program will automatically log you in to your web site directory in NT and your home directory in UNIX.

7. You may give your Session a name at the following screen.
NOTE: This name will be used strictly for identity purposes so you can choose any name you would like.

8. Click the Finish button when a name (and description) is entered.

9. Once you click on Finish the following screen will be generated.
NOTE: Notice that your new session has been saved under the Personal folder using the name you entered above in Session name. You may now either double-click on this highlighted icon or click on the Connect icon - two buttons over from the left of the top of the screen.

If you cannot connect (i.e. it says user cannot login) please double check your FTP address, username, and password given in your confirmation E-mail from DreamWorx Hosting when your account was setup. If you still continue to experience problems, please contact us at support@dreamworxhosting.net and we will be glad to assist you.

10. Once you've logged into your account, you may upload files in the manner described below.

For NT Users
You will see that the name of your account on your DreamWorx Hosting web server is the username for your account. (In this example it is "/Your_Username" and we are logged into an NT server.) You will see that the web site directory below is empty. You may see a folder named "w3svc" with a number attached (this holds your raw log web site statistics) and other folders and files if you also have FrontPage access. Please do not delete any pre-existing folders or files.

For UNIX Users
You will see that the name of your account on your DreamWorx Hosting web server is "home/clients/Your_Username." This directory is called your home directory. In this directory you will find at least the folders "www.yourdomain.com" and "workspace." The first folder represents your webiste directory. You will need to place all files you would like to have displayed on the web in this directory. Simply double-click on the link to this directory in the right-hand column to generate the folder. Double-click again on the folder to gain access. The workspace folder is a storage space in which you may place files that would not like to be displayed on the web.

Again, if you have any trouble logging in to your account or uploading files, please contact us at support@dreamworxhosting.net and we will be happy to assist you. We hope this information helps.

Transferring Files
We will explain two methods for transferring files to your web site. If you would like further information on these processes or any others, please see the help topics of your downloaded AbsoluteFTP program as they are very helpful.

Drag and Drop: Using the left mouse button, click on the icon for the file you want to transfer and continue to hold down the left mouse button. While still holding down the left mouse button, move the mouse cursor so that it is positioned over the right-hand pane (where the folder contents are shown) of the remote window. Release the left mouse button to "drop" the file on the remote window.

Or

Cut and Paste: Select/highlight the files that you want to transfer. Choose the Copy item from the Edit menu. Select the folder/directory in the remote window to which you want to paste the files. Then, choose the Paste item from the Edit menu.

A separate window should appear that shows the progress of the transfer.

When the transfer completes, the target window will automatically refresh and the transferred files should be visible in the right-hand pane of that window.

Troubleshooting Tips
If you receive a 550 Access denied error message when uploading files, please contact support@dreamworxhosting.net for assistance.

Be sure to name the home page of your web site index.htm, index.html, default.htm, or default.asp and keep it directly in your web site directory. If you have not already done so, make sure the DreamWorx Hosting default page is not named index.htm or is deleted when you are ready to make your web pages live. If your home page is in a sub-folder, then it will not be displayed. Also, remember that you will need to wait until your domain name is either registered or transferred before you will be able to see the results by typing http://www.yourdomain.com in a browser. You will not be able to view your site by IP address unless you signed up for a static IP address.
